I spent my last two hours of my last Sunday and 40k VND watching Taxi Driver - the movie which have young Robert de Niro in it. And I have to be honest: I somehow did not like it. But at the same time, it is not quite that I regret watching it. The movie is unavoidable though because I saw a lot of reference about the movie before and is really curious about it. And despite being down after watching all the gun and blood and cigarette, there are a few thing I can relate about the main guy.

First of all, I want to be that ripped. Robert is about my age when he was in the film.

Secondly, it is about ‘Do the job but do not become the job’ that hit me. The decision he made at the last third of the story, when he decided not to be a taxi driver who turned blind eye to the evil of his customers and start doing something about it instead of waiting for someone else like the police or the president to do their jobs, made sense. The guy is clumsy, paranoid and all the bad shit but he did what he thought he needed to do. That’s inspirational af.

The last thing I could recall while writing this sketchy piece is about what you get in return when living for a greater cause. If Travis (the main guy) were real, feel like I could come to him have a chat about this. Not because I made it in life, but because I am just a rookie at this “living for a greater cause” like him.

“At least we tried Travis and god damn it felt so good”

“But yeah you are right, most of the time we are still grinding on the daily job to sustain and stay socialized but let’s always keep an eye on what we can take an extra step to make it right. Make sense?”

“So long, Travis. Nice haircut as always man.”
