For the last recent years I have been dreaming of making an app that generate me a decent source of income and I actually tried hard to do that. I somewhat reached to a certain point where I launched my product, got my first paid users and have a lot of good reviews (and bad ones too) on multiple products. But life is not a dream, I am still lot far away from being profitable because of various reasons: my product is so immature, I lack momentum, the community I am in is not willing to pay,… So yeah I am proud that I actually shipped and also ashamed of my humble (not so humble if I say them out loud) achievement.
Until last week my wife told me to participate in a local, government contest about new ideas to help save environment in creative ways. We proceeded and finished at 2nd prize. Here is the proof:
The prize come with the money that is way more than I ever made making my own software (3mil VND compared to 17USD I made out of my only paid product - mond). Stonk!
And all me and my wife ever did is to make a poster describing our ideas and about 20 min pitching them to the judges. Canva is such a powerful tool and my wife happened to be a Canva God.
It came so unexpectedly yet it also aligned with what I learnt during my failure:
So yeah, I will probably extend this lovely incident a bit further, there’s already some lead that might be interested in seeing a live version of this poster, I always been trying to convert my copy and paste skill to something meaningful like saving environment (which Dat Maniac is on the very same mission!) so I have more reasons to make a new app than ever. The fact that I am writing this blog is partially because I want to keep the momentum thinking about this project. So yeah, I will give my ADHD mind one more anchor then.
